A new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that psychology has had the greatest impact on society since the Industrial Revolution, and it’s not just because of its role in science and technology.
The study shows that people who are trained in a field that includes psychology can actually improve their lives, by influencing how people interact with each other and by changing the way we look at the world.

What to know about this study:The authors looked at more than 7,500 Americans aged 16 to 69 in the years 2000 and 2009.
They were divided into five groups based on how they reported their psychological and social well-being.
The results showed that a good understanding of the role of psychology in our lives improved people’s well-roundedness, and their self-esteem, by almost 10 percentage points.
The study found that psychological skills, such as understanding how to ask the right questions, and making connections, are crucial to life satisfaction.
And in addition to making people feel better, psychological skills also reduce anxiety and depression, and increase positive feelings about life.
How it was done:In the study, researchers used data collected from the Current Population Survey and the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth to determine how people aged 16-69 reported their mental and emotional well-beings in 2000 and 2008.
They then looked at whether psychological and physical traits such as the amount of sleep and the quality of sleep that they got were associated with a person’s satisfaction with their life.
The researchers then looked for correlations between these mental and physical characteristics and self-reported well-feelings.
The authors found that a person with high levels of well-worn psychological traits had a much higher satisfaction with life.
For example, people who had high levels for self-discipline, for example, were much happier than people who didn’t have such traits.
However, people with high level of well worn psychological traits also had a higher likelihood of feeling anxious and depressed than people with lower level of psychological traits.
The researchers also looked at the impact of training in psychology on the life satisfaction of those who were surveyed.
Those who had been trained in psychology had an overall lower satisfaction with a life.
In particular, people training in a psychological field were less likely to have a life that satisfied their needs.
The findings also showed that people trained in the psychological field tended to be more positive about life, having higher levels of self-efficacy and greater self-confidence.
The authors also found that people with more well-trained psychological traits were more likely to report having a high level on a measure of mental and psychological well-ness.
The report does not suggest that training in psychological or physical skills improves well-functioning, but the authors say that training will help us become more self-aware, more aware of our own thoughts and feelings, and to have more positive feelings towards ourselves.
